Hardwired, not hanging from the lighter socket
A dashcam dangling off a cigarette lighter cable works, but it looks untidy, it only records while you are driving, and the cable gets in the way of the airbag on the A-pillar. Hardwiring solves all three.
We take power from a fuse position chosen for that vehicle, add a proper fuse tap, and route the cable up behind the headliner and down the pillar so nothing is visible. Rear camera cable runs the length of the vehicle under trim, not taped to the roof lining.

Parking mode without a dead battery
Parking mode is where dashcams earn their keep — hit-and-runs in car parks are the single most common thing customers tell us about afterwards. It also means the camera draws power while the engine is off.
Every hardwire kit we fit includes a low-voltage cut-off, set so the camera stops recording well before your battery drops too far to start the vehicle. On a healthy battery you get a long window of protection with no risk of walking out to a no-start.
What it costs and how long it takes
A single front camera hardwire is typically one to two hours. Adding a rear camera takes longer because the cable is routed the full length of the vehicle. Fleet work is quoted per vehicle with a discount for multiples.
Questions we get asked
Is a dashcam legal in Pennsylvania and New Jersey?
Yes, though mounting matters — the camera must not obstruct the driver's view. We mount behind or beside the mirror where it is out of your sightline. Note that New Jersey is an all-party consent state for audio recording, so if your camera records cabin audio, tell your passengers or switch audio off.
Can I supply my own camera?
Absolutely. We install customer-supplied cameras all the time. If you have not bought yet, we are happy to point you at models that hold up rather than the ones with the loudest marketing.
How do I get footage off it?
Most current cameras stream to your phone over their own wi-fi. We set the app up with you and pull a clip together before we leave, so you have done it once rather than working it out when you actually need it.
